Project Purpose: Two innovative techniques: Digital terrain modeling using LiDaR data and Ground penetrating Radar will be used to map manure safe zones and karst setbacks in order to help producers comply with restrictive manure application management guidelines that will soon be implemented throughout New York State.

Figure 1. Left: Water entering a sinkhole during the fall. Middle: same sinkhole in the spring when the water level rose during snowmelt, then froze and was followed by water draining into the sink and the subsequent collapse of the ice sheet. Right: typical road berm that blocks drainage to a sinkhole, the wet area on the left. (courtesy of Dr. Richards)

Project Location: The study area will pertain to all karst regions within Genesee County, New York
